Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there, I bought a HP Envy 13" three days ago and I cannot get the backlit keyboard to turn on. I tried with the special key, using fn and not using it, but nothing seems to turn it on.

Could you please help? Thanks

Hello @feragorio,

You're using F5, correct?

Normally the backlit keyboard should work out-of-the-box without any issues and without the need for any driver installation.

Could you try checking for any updates through Windows Updates accessible through Settings > Update and Security and through HP Support Assistant?

In case you don't already have it, here is the download page for HP Support Assistant.

If it doesn't make a difference, I do want to suggest that you get an exchange or a refund.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Indeed, I am using f5. I guess I'll have to go back to the store then... I've got everything updated as you suggested and yet the key does not activate anything. Such a shame!

Thanks anyway for your help.

May I ask how to activate the privacy screen as well? I understand this model has it but cannot find a way to do it.

Hello @feragorio,

I can't find any indication that your laptop has a privacy screen, from looking at the specifications.

If it does, you should see on your F1 key, a pixelated screen sort of icon. Pressing that will activate/deactivate the privacy screen.

Hope that answers your question.
