Hi
This laptop got delivered yesterday and everything is fine except for the backslash/pipe key not registering any key press event at all in any application. eg Notepad, cmd, Powershell, MSYS2 etc.
edit: it isn't functional in the BIOS either.
It's not a localisation issue, the keyboard is UK and the rest of the keys correspond to UK layout. I saw from another post for a different HP laptop that this issue was solved by flashing a new version of the BIOS. I have done this with the latest/only version available, but the key still does not work.
I'll need to return this if I can't get it sorted very shortly because this key is essential for programming.
PS, is this really the support channel for HP products - it's where I got directed from the Contact section of the website?

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Have you tried to check if it's a qwerty keybord or an Azerty keyboard?
Did you try to run a test on the keyboard from F2?
Did you try to use an external USB keyboard and check if that works?
Let's try these steps here:
Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
4. The Component Tests menu displays.
5. Click on Keyboard to run the test.
Let me know how it goes for further assistance.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Hi,
- It is a QWERTY keyboard
- The diagnostic tool (and Windows actually) shows that the backslash/pipe key is registered as the Right Ctrl key.
- It actually works as a Ctrl key in Windows.
- I am unable to remap it with the app, SharpKeys since the target key (backslash/pipe) is not available.
- The diagnostic tool shows a different keyboard layout, with a Right Ctrl key where the backslash/pipe key is (after spacebar and Alt Gr on the bottom row).
- An external USB keyboard works.
