Common problems for Battery

Hi All,

I recently got an HP-Pavillion x-360 14-inch 2 in 1 convertible laptop. I surprised to see that there is no option for a battery charging limiter, so-called battery care function, or Battery health manager in HP terminology. Today, this small feature is present in most of the cellular phones.  Since 2013, I have been using a Sony Vaio with this feature, which disrupts the battery charging at 80% and runs through power.

I tried to google and browse in HP-community to see if this feature is hidden and brought back through any command prompt or through third-party software provided by HP and others. I found a link "Add Battery Care Function (battery charge limit to 80%) to the late 2019 HP Spectre x360 13t" which started in 2019, and users are still requesting to add the feature to all laptops. But it seems like HP people do not care and earn extra money on batteries.

My kind request to HP people is to add this feature by default on all new devices and provide these features through bios update/software to all other laptops without delay. As this feature now days comes even in our mobile phones. So it shouldn't be that much difficult that can't be done by HP technicians. My 12-year-old Sony Vaio, too, has this feature.

In the meantime, I also request the community or experts to share some way to add this feature to my newly brought HP-Pavillion x-360 14-inch 2 in 1 convertible laptop. I apologize If it is already solved or posted earlier; in that case, please provide the appropriate link.

Regards

-AP

Hi @Ap2015

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊

It’s understandable to want a battery care feature for your HP Pavilion x360 14-inch 2-in-1 convertible laptop.

Unfortunately, HP laptops generally do not include a built-in battery charging limiter or "Battery Health Manager" for consumer models like the Pavilion series.

However, here are some potential solutions and workarounds:

1. Windows Power Settings:

  • While Windows doesn’t have a direct battery limiter, you can optimize battery usage by adjusting power settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings.
    • Select Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
    • Adjust settings under Battery to reduce wear.

2. Manual Charging Habits:

  • Until a solution is available, you can manually unplug the charger when the battery reaches 80% to mimic the functionality.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
