My laptop HP ENVY Notebook - 15-ae001nx battery is not charging while it is in use. Charging indicator goes off within seconds and no plugged in sign at the tray icon while in use.
But it is charging while the system is off or monitor is closed.
I have noticed this issue only after a recent OS update (2017-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4048954) ) on November 21, 2017.
Is it a battery / power adopter driver issue?
I had tried uninstall / re-install drivers for 1. Microsoft AC adapter, 2. Microsoft ACPI-compliant Control Method Battery.
I had removed the battery ran the PC in directly on adapter power supply. (System running alright in direct power supply thru adapter) & fixed the battery again.
But the issue not resolved.
Is the power supply adapter has insufficient power rating to provide supply to the running PC & battery charging simultaneously?
I am using a power adapter which came with the system having part number 753560-003, output rate: 19.5V DC, 4.62A, 90W

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that your computer is charging the battery only when the lid is closed or shut down, is that right?
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
Have you run a diagnostics on your computer?
Do you have any external devices connected to your computer?
The issue you are facing could be a hardware or a software issue.
As you have already uninstalled the battery controller.
Recommend you run HP Support Assistant to make sure BIOS and chipset are updated. Click here.
Once BIOS and Chipset are updated, please shut down your computer.
Wait for a minute.
Turn the computer On and keep tapping F2 repeatedly on startup to enter system diagnostics. Click here.
Select the component test and run a test on the battery and the power adapter.
If either one of them fails, please replace the failed component or contact our phone support team to check the service options available for your computer.
Let me know how it goes.

I`ve been going through the same problem as well. Kind of annoying actually. Anyways, I did get my bios updated and everything else before that as well. But unfortunately I`m still facing the same issues. It`d be great if there`s a fix for this.
