Hi @JoSammy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Battery Counterfeit Check Error" blue screen message indicates that your laptop is detecting a battery that it deems as counterfeit or not authorized, even if you believe it is the original battery. This can be due to several reasons, including software glitches, faulty detection mechanisms, or issues with the battery itself. Here’s a structured approach to address this issue:

1. Verify Battery Authenticity

Even though you purchased the laptop new and it should have the original battery, it’s worth double-checking:

  • Check Purchase Details: Confirm that the battery is indeed the original by reviewing the purchase details or contacting the seller.
  • Inspect the Battery: Look for any physical signs or labels on the battery indicating that it is a genuine HP battery. Compare it with the specifications on HP’s website.

2. Power Cycle Your Laptop

Sometimes, a simple power cycle can reset hardware issues:

  • Turn Off: Shut down your laptop completely.
  • Unplug and Remove Battery: Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press Power Button: Hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reinsert Battery and Plug In: Reinsert the battery, connect the power adapter, and turn on the laptop.

3. Update or Reinstall BIOS

An outdated BIOS or firmware can sometimes cause detection issues:

  • Check for Updates:
    • Go to the HP Support website and enter your laptop model to find the latest BIOS version available.
  • Update BIOS: Follow the instructions on the HP website to download and install the latest BIOS update.

4. Check for Battery Firmware Updates

HP occasionally releases firmware updates for batteries that can resolve compatibility issues:

  • Visit HP Support: Check the HP Support website for any available firmware updates for your battery or power management system.

5. Perform a System Diagnostics Test

Run diagnostic tests to check for battery and system issues:

  • HP Support Assistant: Use HP Support Assistant to run a battery health test and diagnostics.
  • BIOS Diagnostics: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, ESC, or F10 during startup). Run any available diagnostics.

6. Reset Battery Calibration

Sometimes recalibrating the battery can resolve detection issues:

  • Discharge and Recharge: Let the battery fully discharge until the laptop shuts down. Then, charge it to 100% without interruption.

7. Reinstall Battery Drivers

Reinstalling the battery drivers can sometimes fix detection problems:

  • Device Manager:
    • Open Device Manager (right-click Start menu and select “Device Manager”).
    • Expand “Batteries” and right-click “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” and select “Uninstall device.”
    • Restart your laptop; Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.

8. Check for Windows Updates

Ensure that your operating system is fully updated:

  • Windows Update: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any available updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
