HP 14 Laptop PC 14-d5000 (4T800AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought a new HP laptop on 20-09-2024. It came with the original battery. Now the laptop shows a message saying ‘Battery Counterfeit Check Error – Non-HP battery detected.’ The laptop is also not charging. I have not replaced the battery; it is the same one that came with the laptop. Please help me fix this issue or replace the battery if needed.battery.jpeg

Hi @rajkothari,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about the battery, don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Could you let me know the exact model of your HP laptop?
  • When did the error message first appear was it right after setup, or only after a few days of use?
  • Does the battery charge at all, or is it stuck at 0%?
  • Have you recently updated BIOS or drivers?

Troubleshooting steps to try

  1. Check the battery connection
    • Shut down the laptop, disconnect the charger, and if possible, remove and reseat the battery to ensure it’s properly connected.
  2. Update BIOS and drivers
    • Go to HP Support Assistant or HP’s official website https://support.hp.com/ , and check for the latest BIOS and power management driver updates. Sometimes these updates resolve false “counterfeit battery” errors.
  3. Perform a battery reset
    • Disconnect the charger, hold down the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power, then reconnect and try charging again.
  4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Press F2 while booting to access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Run the battery test to see if it reports any issues.
  5. Try a different charger (if available)
  • Sometimes the error can be triggered by a faulty adapter rather than the battery itself.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
