my laptop battery is critically low! 2 questions

1. when connected to power does ac power automatically override battery ? If the power adapter is connected to the notebook, it will supply power to the notebook. The power adapter also charges the battery as seen by the amber or white color of the charge LED.

if so is it safe to continue using ac power or should i remove battery & just use ac power? It is safe to use the power adapter as a temporary measure.

2. Do i have replace battery irrespectively for the laptop to run smoothly in the future?   Yes.  It must be replaced with a new one. The battery also is what provides power to the BIOS and EC chips. Without power to retain the BIOS settings there will be problems such as loss of date and time. Eventually it will come to the point that the notebook will not start when the power button is pressed.

The power adapter does not provide ac power to the notebook. It converts AC power to a stable DC voltage (in the 14-19Vdc range) with appropriate current and DC voltage matching the notebook's power requirements.  AC power would destroy your notebook.

That was more that 2 questions. 😉
