Laptops design capacity is falling along with its full charge capacity. Ive noticed the battery hasnt been charging to 100% lately, along with lackluster battery life. It tends to stop around 85-87, but it changes and the last 15% takes forever. Ive left it on the charger overnight, and the battery reporting tool says it gains a percent over a few hours. Its running the latest build of windows 11, and the install that I upgraded from was a completely clean install that I did about a year ago (switched out the 1tb 5400RPM drive over to a 256gb sata SSD). As far as I know, all drivers are up to date, as I have run the HP driver tool recently. BIOS was updated about a week ago, but it has not fixed it. Im assuming it needs a new battery but I think I am interested in replacing instead of repairing, but in the meantime I also know that the design capacity shouldn't fall like that, and I am guessing that it would fix the slow battery charging issue.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I understand that your HP notebook battery is not holding charge. Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:
- 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
- 2. Expand batteries.
- 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
- 4. Shut down the computer.
- 5. Disconnect the charger.
- 6. Remove the battery. (only for removable battery)
- 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
- 8. Insert the battery only. (only for removable battery)
- 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.
If the issue persists, follow the next steps.
Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger: Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests.
- The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
- To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
