I have had my laptop for many years. The battery no longer works. When I searched for a replacement I found that it was discontinued.
What battery am I supposed to buy now?

You have the Envy 17-j000 model series which I used to have a few years back.
Yes, direct from the Service Manual here is the battery part no:
6-cell, 62WHr 32.8AH Li-ion battery
710417-001
That's the same number you imaged above so all checks out and the battery I linked you to is the correct one. I am not going to try to predict how long a battery is going to last. In ordinary use, likely at least 2 years, maybe twice that.

HP no longer sells it but genuine replacement batteries are very easy to find and reasonably priced:
