I am reaching out to report an issue with my HP laptop's battery performance. After charging my laptop to 100%, I turn it off completely. However, when I power it back on after approximately 5-6 hours, I notice that the battery charge has decreased to around 85% or even 80%, despite being powered off the entire time. Here are the details of my device for reference: hp Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 15-fe0030TU Could you please assist me in identifying the cause of this issue? I would also appreciate any recommended solutions to resolve this. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I understand you're experiencing battery drain while the laptop is powered off, especially when it's fully shut down, can be frustrating. Here are some potential causes and solutions to consider for your HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 15-fe0030TU

 

Please try the following Troubleshoots steps. 

 

1.    Turn off the Unit.

2.    Disconnect the AC adapter.

3.    Remove any discs from the disc drive.

4.    Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

5.    Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

6.    Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.

7.    Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.

 

Step 2

 

Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit

 

Step3

 

The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice  and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit 

Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.

 

Steps to troubleshoot the battery issue:

Check Battery Health:

  • Open the HP Support Assistant app.
  • Navigate to the Battery Check section to assess the battery's health. This can help determine if the battery is degraded.

Calibrate the Battery:

  • Fully charge your laptop to 100%.
  • Let the laptop run until it completely drains and shuts off.
  • Charge the laptop again to 100% without interruption. This helps recalibrate the battery and can sometimes fix inaccurate charge level readings.

Check for Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  • Ensure that battery saver or any power management feature that limits charging is not enabled.
  • Check if the system is limiting charging to 65% to preserve battery health (sometimes seen in HP's "Battery Care Function" or "HP Battery Health Manager" settings).

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Go to HP Support and check for the latest BIOS update and drivers related to power management.
  • Sometimes a BIOS update can fix power and battery management issues.

Disable Battery Health Manager (if enabled):

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (press F10 during startup).
  • Look for a setting like HP Battery Health Manager and change it to allow the battery to charge fully if it's set to only charge up to a certain percentage.

Addressing the heat issue:

Update Graphics and Power Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager and update the display drivers and power management drivers.
  • Updated drivers can help optimize power consumption and reduce heat.

Check Background Processes:

  • Open Task Manager and look for high CPU or GPU usage.
  • Disable or uninstall any unnecessary programs that might be running in the background, especially those causing high CPU or GPU usage.

Clean Air Vents:

  • Ensure that the laptop's air vents are clean and free from dust, which can trap heat inside the system.
  • Use compressed air to gently clean the vents if necessary.

Use Cooling Pads or Fans:

  • If the laptop heats up during intensive tasks (like gaming or video editing), consider using a cooling pad or external fan to help dissipate the heat.
