Hello,

The battery life is a disaster right from the start.

It is not possible to use the laptop on battery for longer than 3-4 hours.

I have now carried out many tests, adjusted the power settings, but have not been able to achieve any improvement.

Today I wanted to have a look in the BIOS to see if there are any adjustment options.

In between, the phone rang and I was on the phone for about 40 minutes, during which time the BIOS was permanently open.

Before opening the BIOS, the battery was at 100%, after the 40 minutes it was only at 30%.

I downloaded the battery test tool from Akkuline and ran it on the laptop.

The performance of the battery is OK, but the average continuous consumption is around 1.6 amps.

Even switching off the devices manually (WLAN, Bluetooth and 5G) only brings a few milliamps of improvement.

I have two other colleagues who own the same HP model.

Both report the same battery problems.

Are there any ‘hidden’ settings that can be used to achieve longer battery life or something i can do?

Thank you very much.

Greetings

Marcus

For a laptop with a display greater than 13" that has  a reasonably powerful processor, 2.5-4 hours would be my own expectation.

A 15" mainstream or productivity laptop would likely give you about 2.5- 3 hours of mobile use.

A higher specification laptop, such as the Spectre 13 series laptop that I own, gives me enough mobile power to use it on a flight across the Atlantic Ocean.

Hello,

Thank you for your message.
I am surprised and, to be honest, very ‘annoyed’.

The tests and reviews at the time stated a battery life of around 11 hours.
I was never able to achieve this.

And there are other manufacturers who can definitely do that:
Example: https://www.wortmann.de/de-de/product/aa_terra_mobile_nb/1220813/terra-mobile-1717r-i7-1355u-w11p.as...

I have sold several hundred of this model (identical CPU graphics and RAM) in 15 and 17’, all of which have well over 10 hours of battery life

It must therefore be possible to adjust the power options on the Elitebook, which has similar features, so that the battery life also increases significantly.

I am a technician myself, so I would like to understand what the difference is if the CPU, graphics and RAM are not identical in the models.

Thanks in advance

Regards
Marcus

I read through the current marketing information of the laptop's model series and I saw not mention of 11 hour battery mobile use.

What I stated are my own experiences with the evolution of laptops over thirty plus years.

There are some laptops with low power processors that do have very long battery life, but they suffer from a lack of processing power.

Battery mobile use is all about  specific configuration features such as memory type, the type of display and graphics solution present, to name a few.

Thank you.
Yes, I know HP no longer writes this in the product information, but the relevant tests and reviews of this model from 2023 and 2024 always wrote of:
Office use: 10-12 hours Watching videos: up to 16 hours.
I'm also aware that these figures are grossly exaggerated.

But I know of models that I have been selling for many years and that I use myself for customers, some of which still easily last more than a day without having to recharge even after 2-3 years.

I am 48 years old and have been self-employed in the IT sector for 28 years. So I know the many differences in notebooks only too well.

Just now, the battery test showed that the battery was fully charged after 1.5 hours,
Battery capacity at 100% 2600mAh (2.6Ah)
and an energy of 33.9Wh, which is clearly too low. The built-in battery has 50Wh.
I know that HP only charges the batteries to 80%, but at around 50Wh, we would be at 40Wh here. In other words, there has already been 6% battery wear in the 1.5 years.
