HP Pavilion x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ek0000 (54B29AV)

Just got my device 2-3 months ago.

Noticed the battery draining rate is super fast, apparently 1% every 1-2 minutes, worst if in zoom meeting.

It won't last for more than 2-3 hours.

As according to official site claim it should last for 8hours under normal use, however it doesn't seems that way.

Perhaps any expert out there can help. Thanks

Hi @ChiaKK79,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing battery-draining issues on a laptop like the HP Pavilion X360 14 Convertible can be quite frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you address the battery-draining issue.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to the "Control Panel" and navigate to "Power Options."
  • Make sure your laptop is set to a power plan that suits your needs. The "Balanced" or "Power Saver" plans are generally recommended to conserve battery life.
  • Customize the power plan settings to optimize battery life. You can adjust settings like screen brightness, sleep settings, and display timeout.

Update Drivers:

  • Outdated drivers, especially those related to power management, can impact battery life.
  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your laptop model, including graphics, chipset, and power management drivers.

Check Background Apps and Processes:

  • Some apps and processes running in the background could be consuming power unnecessarily.
  • Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and close any unnecessary apps or processes.
  • Check the "Startup" tab in Task Manager to prevent unnecessary apps from launching at startup.

Monitor Battery Usage:

  • Windows provides a built-in tool to monitor battery usage.
  • Type "Battery Usage" in the Windows search bar and open the corresponding settings.
  • This tool will provide insights into which apps are consuming the most power.

Check for Malware:

  • Malware or viruses can sometimes cause abnormal battery drain by running in the background.
  • Run a full system scan using a reliable antivirus program to ensure your system is clean.

Calibrate the Battery:

  • Sometimes the battery calibration can become inaccurate, leading to incorrect readings of battery capacity.
  • Allow your laptop's battery to drain completely until it shuts down. Then, recharge it to 100% without interruption. This process can help recalibrate the battery gauge.

Update BIOS:

  • An outdated BIOS could contribute to battery issues.
  • Visit HP's support website and check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model. Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates.
  • These updates can include bug fixes and optimizations that may help improve battery life.

Reset Power Settings to Default:

  • If you've made extensive changes to your power settings, resetting them to default could help resolve any conflicting settings.

Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Some battery issues might be related to hardware problems.
  • HP laptops often have built-in hardware diagnostic tools. You can access these tools during boot-up or through the BIOS menu to check for any hardware-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
