The charging light stays amber even though the laptop is fully charged. If I unplug the laptop , restart the laptop and plug it back in the light becomes white. I tried to run a battery test using HP PC Hardware diagnostics test and everything seem fine. But the problem still persist.

Hi @Kunal048,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the charging light on your HP Notebook stays amber even though the laptop is fully charged, there could be a few reasons for this behavior. It's good that you've already run a battery test using HP PC Hardware diagnostics and it didn't report any issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Check the Charger and Cable: Ensure that the charger and charging cable are in good condition. Sometimes, a damaged cable or charger can cause charging issues. Try using a different charger and cable to see if the problem persists.
Check the Power Socket: Make sure the power socket you're using to charge the laptop is working correctly. Plug in another device to confirm that the socket is providing power as expected.
Update the BIOS and Drivers: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS and drivers are up to date. HP often release updates that can help resolve charging issues. You can download the latest BIOS and driver updates from the HP support website.
Reset the Power Management Settings: Sometimes, power management settings can cause charging problems. Try resetting the power management settings to their default values. You can do this by going to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" and selecting "Restore default settings for this plan."
Perform a Hard Reset: A hard reset can sometimes resolve charging issues. To perform a hard reset, follow these steps:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Unplug the charger and any other peripherals.
- Disconnect the laptop's battery if possible (this may involve opening the laptop, so consult your laptop's manual).
- Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery (if you disconnected it).
- Plug in the charger and turn on the laptop.
Calibrate the Battery: Battery calibration can sometimes help resolve charging problems. Here's how to calibrate the battery:
- Charge your laptop to 100%.
- Use the laptop on battery power until it completely drains and shuts down.
- Plug in the charger and let it charge to 100% without interruptions.
Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates can address power management and battery-related issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
