Dear Sirs,

I'm writing to inquire about my laptop battery. I always plug it in when I use it and disconnect it after I'm finished, even when the battery shows full charge. However, whenever I open it again, the battery level has dropped and it starts recharging.

I'm concerned about where the power might be going and if this constant up-and-down cycle is reducing the battery's lifespan. Additionally, I'd like to know if there's a way to disable charging when I want to keep the laptop plugged in.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Hi @Ahmed-Mahfouz ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing some frustration with your laptop's battery behavior.

Here are some steps you can take to address your concerns:

  • Calibrate your battery: Sometimes, the battery level indicator can become inaccurate over time. To recalibrate it, you can fully charge your laptop, then use it until the battery is completely drained and the laptop shuts down. After that, plug it in and charge it to full capacity again without interruptions. This process can help your laptop better gauge its battery level.
  • Check power settings: Windows allows you to customize power settings, including what happens when your laptop is plugged in. You can adjust these settings to optimize battery health. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. From there, you can adjust settings related to battery charging and power management.
  • Update drivers and BIOS: Sometimes, outdated drivers or BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) firmware can cause battery-related issues. Make sure your laptop's drivers and BIOS are up to date by visiting HP's support website and downloading the latest updates for your specific model. Software and Drivers for HP Notebook - 15-da2003nx
  • HP Battery Health Manager: Some HP laptops come with a feature called Battery Health Manager, which allows you to optimize battery charging settings to prolong battery lifespan. You can check if your laptop has this feature and enable it if available.

Let's try reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

1) In the search box, type, and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shut down the computer.

7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software". Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Also, try updating the computer:

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates:

1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
