Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop is 6 years old. It is working fine for what i need, however with the power cord plugged in the battery only charges to 48%.

Is it time to replace the computer?

Can the battery be replaced?

Thanks,

Try these steps:

1. Perform Battery Calibration

Battery calibration can help improve the accuracy of the charge level readings:

  • Fully charge your laptop to 100%, if possible.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and allow the laptop to discharge completely until it shuts down.
  • Leave the laptop off for about 3 hours.
  • Plug the laptop back in and charge it to 100% without interruption.

2. Check Battery Health

  • HP Battery Check: Use HP Support Assistant to run HP battery check tool:
    • Search for and open HP Support Assistant.
    • Select your device, and then click Battery.
    • Click Battery Check and follow the on-screen instructions to test your battery.

3. Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Ensure your BIOS and battery management drivers are up to date:

4. Replace the Battery

If battery calibration and updates do not solve the issue, it might be worth replacing the battery. Below are steps to determine battery compatibility and how to replace it:

Verify Battery Part Number:

Purchase a Replacement Battery:

  • You can purchase a genuine HP replacement battery from HP directly or authorized retailers.

Replacing the Battery:

  • Ensure you have access to a suitable workplace and tools such as a screwdriver set.

I hope this helps.
