Battery Replacement

Good Evening,

I am reaching out as per a suggestion from the sales department, in hopes you may be able to assist me in finding a replacement battery for my HP laptop.

This morning, I noticed that the bottom of my laptop was popping open and it looked 'puffed'. I brought it to my local Best Buy (where I purchased it new, exactly three years ago, on October 10, 2020) and they opened the back of the laptop to show me that the battery was swollen! They were very surprised to see so much swelling as the computer is only 3 years old. 

In any case, they removed the battery for me and told me to purchase a replacement battery from HP on the HP website. While I was still in the store, I looked it up and could not find anything, so I asked the tech to look it up. He also could not locate the part and neither could two other technicians on duty. They suggested I reach out to HP. 

So, when I returned home, I called a number I found online. But, apparently that is a sales number only. The salesperson tried to also look up the part and she also could not locate anything. So, she suggested that I email you.

Please let me know what I can do to purchase a replacement battery asap. I am a teacher and I rely on my personal computer at home on a daily basis. Being without my laptop is making my job difficult. 

I am quite upset that this process has been so stressful, and I hope that you can help to rectify the situation by attending to my request quickly.

Hi:

You have done an outstanding job researching the information you need to buy a new battery.

Unfortunately, as you have found out, HP does not sell a replacement battery for your notebook.

Under those circumstances, the only suggestion I can offer would be to do a search by the HP battery part number on Amazon or eBay and find a compatible aftermarket battery that references the HP part number.

One thing you can do to minimize battery swelling is to not leave the notebook plugged in 24/7 and the battery in a constant 100% charge status.

I hope it's correct. It should be as I clicked on the link you provided for me. My concern is that it is not an HP product. I hope it is good quality and does not get hot or overheat if I accidentally forget to unplug the charger one day. I worry about it starting a fire. I've seen those issues with the Vaping batteries exploding, on the news, and I am concerned that this is a knock-off brand with no safety restrictions. What are your thoughts on my concerns?

Yes, I am a bit wary of buying an 'aftermarket' battery but I don't know what choice you have in the matter.

Now, there were some eBay listings that claim the battery for sale is the real McCoy.

This seller has a higher feedback percentage.

But the sellers are located in China and there would be no way to tell if the 'genuine' battery is counterfeit or not.

The battery on the Amazon link you ordered should be the right one, and Amazon has a good return policy in the event the battery doesn't work for some unknown reason.
