HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ae000 CTO

About 2 weeks ago my laptop stopped charging. I have run a battery test and charging port test, both failed. I replaced the battery, followed the instructions let it drain to 10%, plugged it in and still won't hold a charge. Ran both test again, again they both failed. Laptop is fully up-to-date. I can only use my laptop while plugged in and they orange charging light is displayed. What are my options? I have a hp spectre x360-13t-ae000 CT0, product id: 2VV47AV

There does exist the possibility that you did not connect the battery connector to the system board header completely.

Charging port failure?

I have not heard of an error message or diagnostic test return that result.

If the charging port had failed you would not be able to use the laptop while the power adapter is connected to the charging port.

With that said,  you can consider that the charging port has not failed.

There is the possibility that there are problems with the charging circuit on the system board.

"followed the instructions let it drain to 10%"   Never let a lithium ion battery discharge to below 20%!!

What instructions did you follow?

Everything you see on YouTube or read on the internet is not actually true.

Is it possible for me to test and replace if needed the charging circuit on the system board, or something I need to have a professional do?

& the instructions that came with the replacement battery. It says discharge to 10% then recharge to 100% and do that 3-4 times. Sounded weird to me too.

It depends. If you are a skilled electronics technician who is familiar with diagnosing circuit failures to component level, then my answer would be yes.

If you are not, leave it to a professional.

Those were definitely some bad instructions. You correctly picked up on it as perhaps being sketchy. Taking a lithium ion battery below 20% is detrimental to the length of its service life. That is why we caution people not to do it.
