My HP Notebook battery reading says plugged in, not charging. While on just battery power the computer is normal speed, when I plug it into 110 volts it gets very slow. The power indicator light also stays on after shutdown unless I hold the power button for a few seconds.

I think I may have found the problem. I cleaned the power connections for the charger with contact cleaner. It is working fine now, but not sure for how long. If the contacts were dirty, why would it still run off from charger power and still charge after the computer was turned off? I really appreciate all the help. It is nice to have an expert explain things to a novice such as myself. Thank You

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the computer was working fine?
- What is the exact model for your computer?
- Are you using the original charger came with the computer?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
- Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
While you respond to that, I recommend you update the BIOS on the computer from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
If you continue facing the issue, follow the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”
Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”
Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.
Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”
Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I am not sure of the exact date the problem started. I was having router problems that contributed to the slow performance. The model number is HP Notebook 17-x116dx. I have been on with Microsoft support several times and they have exhausted all their resources including what he called a total reset. The reset took 3 hours, my accounts were saved, but I lost all my added apps. The charger is original and I have another HP laptop with the same charger, I swapped them with no change. The device manager change that you suggested has been done several times and the BIOS update has been done 2 times as well.Microsoft told me it has to be an HP problem, but I am not sure. The only changes on this computer have been windows updates. This cumputer was a windows 7 with a windows 10 update icon upon purchase. I have been thinking of doing a system recovery, but not sure if that will put me back to windows 7. If that happens, I am not sure the windows 10 update ican is still functional. Any additional help would be great. Thank you

I have tried a charger with the same output and it did not help. I don't know where i would get a higher output charger that would fit this computer. One of the Microsoft Techs already did the reset on this computer with no improvement.I also had an issue with creating restore points and the reset did repair that problem. Thank you
