Hi @Fahad30,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop’s battery is not charging beyond 79% and you're seeing a calibration message, it’s possible that the battery needs recalibration or there might be an issue with the battery or charging system itself. Here are some advanced troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Full Battery Calibration

  • Discharge Fully: Allow your laptop battery to discharge completely until the laptop shuts down by itself. This ensures that the battery is completely depleted.
  • Charge Fully: Plug in the charger and let it charge uninterrupted to 100%. This process can help recalibrate the battery’s charge indicator.

2. Check Battery Health

  • Battery Report: On Windows, you can generate a battery report to check the battery’s health.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
    • A report will be generated and saved in a file path displayed in the Command Prompt. Open this file and review the battery health status.

3. Update BIOS and Drivers

  • BIOS Update: Check the laptop manufacturer’s website for any BIOS updates. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve battery-related issues.
  • Driver Update: Ensure all drivers, especially the chipset and power management drivers, are up-to-date.

4. Reset Battery Settings in BIOS/UEFI

  • Access BIOS/UEFI: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, F10, DEL, or another key during startup).
  • Battery Calibration Option: Some BIOS/UEFI setups have a battery calibration or reset option. Look for this option and follow the instructions if available.

5. Battery and Power Management Settings

  • Battery Saver Mode: Ensure that battery saver mode or power-saving settings are not affecting charging. Check the power settings in the Windows Control Panel.
  • Power Plan: Adjust the power plan settings to ensure that the laptop is set to charge the battery fully.

6. Examine Hardware Issues

  • Check Charger: Make sure that the power adapter and charging cable are functioning correctly. Try using a different charger compatible with your laptop.
  • Inspect Battery: If possible, remove the battery (if it’s removable) and check for any visible damage or debris. Reinsert it properly.

7. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Power Reset: For laptops with removable batteries, remove the battery and unplug the power adapter. Hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power, then reinsert the battery and plug in the charger.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
