Hi everyone.

I have a HP PAVILION PLUS 14 bought on jenuary 2025. Since abount 2 months HP Support Assistant tell me that battery need calibration. I have tried to do this with UEFI hardware diagnostic but the process doesn't end succesfully. The battery is fully discharged but when the charging is being started the process stop and abort. I've tried many times, I've upgraded all the upgradeble (firmware, UEFI diagnostic) but the process still abort after the discharging and at the begin of charging. Obviuosly, I've used the original battery charger.

Anyone can help?

Hi @tommyover,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion Plus 14 is showing repeated battery calibration failures through HP Support Assistant and UEFI diagnostics. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm Battery Health in Diagnostics

Run the “Battery Check” in HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI or Windows version).

This test shows if the battery is healthy or needs replacement, independent of calibration.

Perform a Manual Battery Reset

Shut down the laptop and disconnect the charger.

Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power, then reconnect and restart.

Check BIOS and Firmware Updates

Ensure the BIOS is updated to the latest version from HP’s support site.

Battery calibration relies on firmware communication, so outdated BIOS can cause failures.

Calibrate Manually Without Diagnostics Tool

Charge the battery to 100%, then keep it plugged in for 2 more hours.

Disconnect the charger and let the battery drain fully until the laptop shuts down.

Recharge uninterrupted back to 100%. This cycle helps recalibrate even if the tool aborts.

Inspect Charger and Power Port

Use only the original HP charger, as you mentioned.

Check the charging port for dust or looseness that could interrupt calibration when charging begins.

Evaluate Battery Condition After 10 Months of Use

Even though the laptop is new, batteries can sometimes degrade early.

If diagnostics consistently abort, the battery may not accept calibration and could need replacement.

I hope this helps.

Hello @Kuroi_Kenshi.

Thanks for your reply; unfortunately, none of solutions mentioned works.

I've latest firmware F.13; I've tried manual calibration as descripted, battery health is ok (only calibration is obligatory), CA adapter is ok as the usb-c connector.

Below the result of battery test from app HP: there is a uknow error code:

Do you have others suggestions for my problem?

Hi @tommyover,

Thank you for the update, and I appreciate you trying all the steps thoroughly. Since the calibration stops exactly when charging begins, the issue is likely related to how the firmware is reading the battery’s charging thresholds, not the battery health itself.

Let’s continue with a few more advanced checks:

1. Reset Battery Learning via BIOS

Some Pavilion Plus models have a hidden battery-learning reset option.

Restart the laptop.

Immediately press Esc → F10 (enter BIOS).

Look for options under Advanced, System Configuration, or Power such as:

Battery Learn Mode

Battery Reset

Battery Learning Calibration

If available: enable → save → restart → try calibration again.

If you don't see the option, it confirms firmware handles it automatically.

2. Try Calibration with the Laptop Powered Off

This avoids OS or driver interruptions.

Shut down the laptop completely.

Plug in the charger and let it charge from 0% to 100% while OFF.

When it reaches 100%, leave it plugged in at least 1 more hour.

Disconnect and drain again to 0%, then recharge normally.

This method recalibrates purely through embedded controller firmware.

3. Check for Embedded Controller (EC) Reset

The EC manages battery communication and charging.

Shut down the laptop.

Plug in the charger.

Hold Power + Mute (F6 on some models) for 20 seconds.

Release and power on normally.

Retry battery calibration afterward.

4. If Calibration Fails Only at Charging Start

This pattern suggests the battery cannot provide accurate voltage reporting when charging begins, even if “Battery Health: OK.”

In HP diagnostics, check if the battery status shows:

Primary—Calibrate (mandatory)

Full charge capacity below design capacity

Status: Unknown or Unable to learn

If yes, calibration failure is considered a battery fault under warranty even if health shows OK.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi.

The problem still persist.

1) The option is not visible in my BIOS version.

2) I have alread y tried manual calibration with power off but does't have any effect on "calibration mandatory".

3) I do EC reset but problem persist.

4) I confirm that calibration process stops when the discharge is complete and recharge starts (sometimes it doesn't even starts.... the PC power off itself at 0% while the calibration process is running and the discharge finished). I have a video for it, can I attach here in a som way?

FInally, I think the battery needs replacement in warranty. I show you under that, plus all I have wrote upper, the capacity is below the nominal after only 8 months of life (with FEW cycles!!)
