HP Pavilion - 14-ce3510na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Pavilion notebook shows battery calibration needed message. I've done it 2-3 weeks before when a warning showed up (I used the start up method as advised by the HP support assistant). It's ok after doing the calibration. But now again it shows ''Calibrate 21'' ''The battery is functioning correctly, but it needs to be calibrated. You will experience shorter battery life between charges if the battery is not calibrated''.
Have I to take the message seriously or if it's routine message pop up due to some software malfunctioning?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  1. Unplug the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  3. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the startup menu appears, press F2. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu displays.

  4. Click Component Tests in the main menu.

  5. In the list of Component Tests, click Power.

  6. In the list of Power Tests, click Battery.

  7. On the Battery Test, click Run once. The Battery Test begins.

The Battery Test takes about two minutes. The Battery Calibration, if needed, requires 2 to 4 hours. You can cancel at any time by pressing the Escape key (Esc).

  8. Wait while the battery check completes.

  9. When the testing is done, review the first line on the Battery Check page that displays for the status or condition of the battery.

    • If your battery passed, click Main Menu or click Battery Details for more information.

    • If the battery passes and needs to be calibrated, click Calibrate Battery.

  10. If your battery failed,

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

First of all, these steps won't work as I tried this step (component power test) but failed to calibrate the battery.HP is giving different confusing procedures for the same issue, which leads the customer in a riddle and we have to find out the procedure which suits for my issue. Some say to run the hardware test, another says memory test, and some more say the battery test etc etc.I happened to found these different methods in HP site itself.

I used the component test (memory test-loop until error) method which succeeded to calibrate the battery. That I did on Feb 11th.Now, even before completing 1 month it again asks for battery calibration. That's the doubt here. Why does it happen? I think battery calibration is to be done once in 3 months. Now I've to done it biweekly, as per the HP support assistant.

Kindly make it clear if the message is of critical importance or can I ignore it?

Need a clear cut answer/solution for this, as it's getting a disturbance to me. Please don't provide misleading or confusing solutions, its a request...

the Windows is up to date and

HP Support Assistant says, ''You're up to date with software and drivers''. I think there is nothing to do with the BIOS update as well as per the HPSA.
