HP Pavilion - 15-cw1008la

Hello, I changed the battery of my notebook recently and the systems keeps telling me to calibrate the battery but I can't; I've tried discharge it and then charge it again when it's off, I've tried the steps on the hp page, I've tried everything but doesn't work. The battery usually discharges at 80%-85% and then the latop shuts down, I've noticed that the battery a little bit faster, and when I turn it on there's a screen saying "wrong passwotd, write the follwing letters to try again"  or something like that.

Hi @Andy0509,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you’re having a couple of issues with your HP Pavilion 15-cw1008la after changing the battery: calibration problems and unexpected shutdowns.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to address these issues:

1. Battery Calibration:

Battery calibration helps the system accurately report the battery's charge level. Since the usual steps haven’t worked for you, try these additional methods:

Perform a Battery Calibration Using Windows:

Fully Charge the Battery:

  • Plug in the charger and charge the battery to 100%. Ensure the laptop stays plugged in for a while after reaching 100% to make sure it's fully charged.

Discharge the Battery:

  • Unplug the charger and use the laptop normally until the battery is completely drained. The laptop will shut down when the battery is empty. This can take some time, so be patient.

Recharge the Battery:

  • Plug the charger back in and let the battery charge uninterrupted to 100% again.

Check Calibration:

  • Once fully charged, check if the calibration issue is resolved. Sometimes this process needs to be repeated a couple of times.

Update BIOS and Battery Drivers:

Update BIOS:

  • Go to HP Support’s website and download the latest BIOS update for your model. Follow the instructions to update it.

Update Battery Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
  • Expand the “Batteries” section, right-click on “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery,” and choose “Update driver.”
  • Select “Search automatically for updated driver software.”

2. Addressing the Error Message:

The screen message you mentioned could be related to the battery replacement, BIOS settings, or security features. Try these steps:

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS settings (usually by pressing F10 or Esc during startup).
  • Look for any settings related to security or boot and make sure they are correctly configured.

Reset BIOS to Default Settings:

  • In BIOS, you can usually find an option to reset settings to default. This might resolve any issues caused by incorrect settings.

Inspect the New Battery:

  • Ensure the replacement battery is genuine and compatible with your HP Pavilion model. Sometimes third-party batteries can cause issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, I tried all the things above but nothing has solved the problem. I'm using my laptop plugged all day until the battery stops working to reaplace it. If it works I'll give an update.
