Microsoft Windows 11

Hi. A few years ago my computer warned me that I needed to change the battery and I did. It said that the new battery needed to be calibrated and I tried that but it didn't work. I followed the manual by starting the computer and pressing esc and calibrating. I also tried the manual way, by completely discharging the computer and then charging it again and leaving the computer on for 3 hours after it was fully charged. Now it has come up again that the battery needs to be calibrated but it doesn't work!!!
It says that the battery is ok. Can someone PLEASE help me??

Hi @AlleH,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Using HP Battery Health Manager

Some HP laptops come with a feature called Battery Health Manager designed to calibrate the battery and improve its life.

  • Access HP Battery Health Manager:
    1. Restart the computer and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
    2. Press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup.
    3. Navigate to the Advanced tab and then select Battery Health Manager.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the battery.

2. Manual Calibration Process

Here's another method to manually calibrate your battery:

Disable Sleep Mode:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep.
  • Set Sleep to Never.

Discharge the Battery:

  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Use the laptop until it automatically shuts down due to low battery.
  • Ensure the laptop stays off for at least 5 hours.

Fully Charge the Battery:

  • Plug in the power adapter and charge the laptop without interruption until the battery reaches 100%.
  • Leave the laptop plugged in for an additional 2 hours after it reports that it's fully charged.

Re-enable Sleep Mode:

  • Go back to Settings > System > Power & Sleep.
  • Set Sleep to your desired time settings.

3. Battery Test Using HP Support Assistant

Another way to check and calibrate your battery is by using HP Support Assistant.

Download and Install HP Support Assistant:

  • Download HP Support Assistant from HP’s official website if it is not already installed.
  • Open HP Support Assistant from the Start Menu or taskbar.

Run Battery Check:

  • In HP Support Assistant, click on My devices.
  • Select Battery Check and follow the instructions to test and calibrate the battery.

4. Updating Battery Driver

Ensure that the battery driver is up-to-date.

  1. Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Batteries category.
  3. Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Update driver.

I hope this helps.
