Hi @Jwylie1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It’s not uncommon for laptop chargers to become warm during use, especially while gaming, as they need to supply more power to support both the laptop's operation and battery charging. However, if the charger is becoming excessively hot, it could indicate a potential issue. Here are some considerations.

Normal Operation: Some heat is normal, but if it’s too hot to touch or smells burning, that’s a concern.

Ventilation: Ensure the charger has good airflow around it. Avoid covering it with fabric or placing it on soft surfaces.

Check Connections: Make sure all connections are secure and that there is no damage to the charger or cable.

Use the Correct Charger: Ensure you're using the charger that came with your laptop. Using a charger with a different voltage or amperage can lead to overheating.

Gaming Load: High-performance tasks like gaming can draw more power, causing the charger to work harder and generate more heat.

Solutions:

  • Take Breaks: While gaming, take breaks to allow the charger to cool down.
  • Positioning: Place the charger on a hard, flat surface to improve heat dissipation.
  • Contact Support: Since the laptop is less than a week old, consider reaching out to HP support for a replacement or further guidance.

Safety Precaution:

If the charger feels dangerously hot or shows signs of damage (like melted plastic or frayed wires), stop using it immediately to avoid fire hazards.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
