My Battery isnt taking a charge.  I did follow the advice in other threads about deleting from device manager and restarting but that didnt work.   I did a battery check on start up and code the error code

m3282m-91ka58-mfpx6k-coec03   but no one has been able to tell me what it means.   This laptop has always had a battery issue, a year ago i had to send it back to get the battery replaced (its internal so I can't do it) but the new battery only lasted a year (i was told it should last several years).   any advice?

The code is failing the checksum - it cannot be checked.

Regardless, the only valuable information from the code is whether the battery failed.

Likely failure sub-code is Failure code 601

The rest of the information is either extraneous to the failure or is available only to HP Support.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regardless of what you were told, the battery likely lasted as long as its warranty.

This is not uncommon, though it is also true that a battery can last for years.

If you have moderate skill level with handling small screws, if you have a steady hand, and can generally do small repairs, you might be able to change the battery in your computer.  The task is not normally considered "advanced skill level" though there could be exceptions.

If you cannot change the battery and you cannot get the help to do so,

You can try contacting HP Support to submit a case.

Be Aware:

  • Out-of-Warranty service is not free.  You will pay for shipping, parts and labor.
  • If the case is accepted, you have to mail your computer to HP - it takes time - how long it takes depends on your location, the nearest repair depot, whether parts are available.

HP Contact Information is included near the end of this message.

What to do?

You will have to look it up - "Pavilion" is not enough information for use to tell you the specifics.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.  My specific laptop is Product Number: Y1N95UA
Description: HP Pavilion - 15-au123cl.    I did take your advice and went to the HP part page BUT it doesn't list the battery I need, all it lists is a small lithium round battery for the clock, which HP doesn't even stock.   Can you tell me what the battery part number is and where I can buy it?

You can purchase the battery from any merchant with whom you want to do business, has the part in stock, has a decent return policy, and has the means to get the part to you before your hair turns gray.

It is not necessary the part be "genuine" HP, but it should meet your other criteria.
