HP Spectre x360 13-ap0001nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear community,

I have a Spectre x360, very happy with it, but I am really curious on the reason why the laptop is depleting battery while completely shut down (with a rate variable from 1% to 3% every 24h). It is the first laptop I own that shows this behaviour, and looking over the internet and the HP community, it seems that there is no clear idea on the reason behind it.

I really tried everything, deactivating fast startup, connected standby from registry, upgrading bios or drivers for different components...nothing worked.

Also run all the tests on the laptop and everything seems fine - battery is completely healty from HP support assistant and also from the windows battery reports.

I don't mind solving the issue, the impact is not big. But I really find strange that nobody knows what 's going on.

Any clue?

Thanks!

Francesco

On "modern" laptops with an internal battery the internal main battery fulfills some of the functions that a coin sized CMOS battery used to perform so there is a constant small power draw. Also, you may have a mode that powers usb ports even when the laptop is asleep and that draws a little power even with no usb device attached. Lastly, Windows 10 often shuts down to a state that is not completely "off" which allows it to seem to boot up faster and that can draw a small amount of power. You are by far not the first person to notice this.

Hi Huffer,

thanks a lot for your reply! Indeed it seems that this is quite a widespread issue, affecting not only HP laptops but also other brands, even with more severe effects.

Just commenting on the other tips: I do not have anything attached to usb ports - I even deactivated the USB charging while off from the BIOS settings.I deactivated fast startup - also tried to remove connected standby, but to no avail so I assume that is not the cause of the battery depletion.

I understand a bit of depletion may be normal, but 3% per day it is a big amount in my opinion - I would expect that depletion in standby mode!!!! 🙂

3% is a bit much but some depletion is normal...we have had some people report more than 3%

I was wondering if there is anybody that has a 13'' model (late 2018) and that  is NOT experiencing the issue. Anybody out there?

Would also be nice to have any information from an HP representative 😞
