I ran into a battery problem. Sometimes, the battery wouldn’t charge to 100 % and stops at certain percentages instead. When I run HP hardware diagnostics/ battery, it says.

Primary:

Logic State: Weak

Charge State : OK

then the battery check status says “Cancelled”. Not “Passed” not “Failed”, “Cancelled”.

Can someone please explain what does it mean?
Do I need to replace the battery?
It is still safe to use this battery?

Were it me and I could find a compatible replacement, I'd certainly replace a weak / bad battery.

I don't use battery very often - I certainly want it working if it's needed.

It is safe to use the battery.

The battery might fail - it could be awkward should the battery fail when you are using it - you could lose data.

Keep your backups current

Back up your important folders and files to somewhere other than the computer (cloud storage, for example).

Thank you for reaching out to me so quickly. Right now it’s hard to get a spare battery part with the covid situation. Should I remove the battery and use the laptop or should I just leave the battery attached and charge it all the time while using it? Thank you once again.

You are welcome.

With this type of battery and no other problems, I'd leave it attached and just keep the computer plugged in to AC power.

Stay Safe.
