@JN1952, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing rapid battery drain on your brand-new HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 running Windows 11. I’ll guide you through some advanced steps to help resolve this issue.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or drivers can cause power management issues.

  • Visit the HP Support page.
  • Enter your product name: HP 15-fd0000.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics for Battery

This checks battery health and calibration.

  • Press Esc repeatedly at startup > F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  • Run the test and note the results (especially battery capacity and status).

You can also use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows tool.

Battery Report via Windows

This helps analyze battery wear and usage.

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run: powercfg /batteryreport
  • The report will be saved to C:\Users\<YourUsername>\battery-report.html.

Check:

  • Design Capacity vs Full Charge Capacity
  • Recent usage patterns

Let us know if the full charge capacity is significantly lower than the design capacity.

Power Settings Optimization

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Battery Saver.
  • Enable Battery Saver at 20% or higher.
  • Under Power Mode, select Best Power Efficiency.

Also, disable background apps:

  • Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Disable unnecessary startup apps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
