I have an hp victus 16 i have a problem with the battery it barely lasts 2h when it is supposed to last for 8h knowing that its new one month old. I noticed the on msi afterburner that the dedicated gpu is constantly triggered to high watt. I tried everything but can't fix it.

Hi @Tonpy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Victus 16 is consuming more power than it should due to the dedicated GPU being constantly active, which can significantly impact battery life. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix this issue.
Switch to Integrated Graphics (GPU Switch)
- Many laptops have a setting that allows you to switch between the dedicated GPU (usually NVIDIA or AMD) and the integrated GPU (Intel/AMD).
- For NVIDIA GPUs: Go to NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings and select Power Management Mode to Optimal Power or Battery Saving.
- For AMD GPUs: Open AMD Radeon Settings and switch to Power Saving mode.
Power Plan Settings
- Ensure that your laptop is set to a power-saving mode when on battery.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options, and select Power Saver or adjust your Balanced plan for optimized battery life.
MSI Afterburner Settings
- In MSI Afterburner, reduce the power limit and core clock settings for the GPU to limit its power draw while not under heavy load. This can help manage power consumption when the GPU is not needed.
Update Drivers
- Update GPU drivers through Device Manager or the GPU's software (NVIDIA GeForce Experience for NVIDIA or AMD's Adrenaline software for AMD) to ensure they are optimized for power management.
- Also, check for any BIOS/firmware updates on the HP website for your specific model, as they may contain power optimizations.
Disable Unnecessary Background Processes
- Check for any background applications or tasks that may be using the GPU unnecessarily. You can view this in Task Manager under the Processes tab.
Windows Battery Settings
- In Settings > System > Power & battery, make sure that features like Battery Saver are enabled when the battery level gets low. You can also turn on Dynamic Power Mode if available.
Reduce Screen Brightness
- High screen brightness can also contribute to rapid battery drain. Adjust the brightness in the Action Center or through the Display Settings to a lower level.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
