HP Spectre x360 - 13"
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In last few days the casing on the right hand edge of the base of my HP Spectre x360 has expanded creating a gap around the edge. I am concerned that this is a Health & Safety/ Fire Hazard as the base of the casing is also warm. Is this the battery expanding? If so will HP replace this? This is second issue I have had with this laptop (previously the heat sink had to be replaced, a problem from when it was brand new). Two hardware problems in less than 2.5 years is not what I expect for a £1500 laptop! It is now out of warranty.

I understand there is a recall on batteries although mine doesn't appear to be one of them. Could it be that these batteries should also be recalled and replaced as a courtesy to customers? This is a very worrying development, I am afraid the laptop will eventually explode?!

HP please respond, I have tried to get through on the phone line but I have been on hold for a long time. Thanks.

Hi,

Battery swelling does not really represent a security issue, Take a look at this document.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05640567

You should have it replaced before it causes any hardware problems.

If you provide the exact model number of the PC we can take a look at what battery you need

Model number

Let me know,

David
