Hello,

I had a message when turning my laptop telling that I needed to replace the battery.

After using HP component test, I hade the following failure ID : PSPP6C-8N38G1-MFPUQK-C0AR03

The battery details I got from HP component test software are the following :

Charge capacity : 6%

Cycle count : 372

Design capacity : 5700mAh

Full charge capacity : 367mAh

Remaining capacity : 0mAh (0%)

Current : 0mA

Battery status : Replace (42)

Failure ID : PSPP6C-8N38G1-MFPUQK-C0AR03

Terminal Voltage : 16319 mV

Design Voltage : 14600 mV

Cell Voltage 1 : 4092mV

Cell Voltage 2 : 4091mV

Cell Voltage 3 : 4088mV

Cell Voltage 4 : 4048mV

Status : 02D0

AC power : Yes

I bought a brand new battery and installed it and it had been slowly going from around 50% to 0% while plugged in.

I ran another test for which I got the following failure ID : PSPP6C-9PU8G1-MFPUQK-C0C003

I currently can't keep my laptop turned on if it is not plugged in (like it doesn't have a battery)

For the new battery details I have the following information :

Charge capacity : 99%

Cycle count : 1

Design capacity : 5973 mAh

Full charge capacity : 5931 mAh

Remaining capacity : 0 mAh (0%)

Current : 0 mA

Battery status : Replace (42)

Failure ID : PSPP6C-9PU8G1-MFPUQK-C0C003

Terminal Voltage : 13925 mV

Design Voltage : 14400 mV

Cell Voltage 1 : 3486 mV

Cell Voltage 2 : 3474 mV

Cell Voltage 3 : 3481 mV

Cell Voltage 4 : 3484 mV

Status : 0290

AC power : Yes

I would like to know the meaning of the two error codes and if both batteries are dead.

Thank You,

Ahmed

The secrets of the failure codes are available only to HP Support.

For the rest of us, the basic information in the failure analysis all that is available.

Failure Information

PSPP6C-9PU8G1-MFPUQK-C0C003OKxxxxxxxx1/1/17601PowerAC Adaptor, Battery, Cache Battery Pack, Charger, Power Cord, Power SupplyBattery 1

In so much as the failure code is concerned the battery is indeed "bad".

Pretty much anything you can find out about your battery is in the Battery Report.

The report other important information and help are explained in the following excellent TKB article.

Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

If you have not done so, be sure to add the mentioned hardware check on the AC Adapter.
