HP Pavilion 17-ab011nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have the 17-ab011nl notebook. Since one month, the battery indicator light is white after some time with the notebook off but the battery is not fully charged (30-40%). If I switch on the computer, the battery indicator light will become red after some seconds. In the Windows bar, the percentage of battery is correct.

I also called the HP italian customer service (serbian!) but the technicians did not identify the problem.

Customer service sent me new battery and power adapter. I have also updated the BIOS as the latest version.

Product number: X7H35EA#ABZ
OS: Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

Hello, @Paky - Greetings!

Thanks for reaching out! I'd like to help 🙂

I see that you are having trouble charging your HP notebook. Appreciate all your troubleshooting efforts so far 🙂

You mentioned that the technical support team replaced both the battery and the adapter. So, is the issue resolved or are you still facing the issue with the new adapter & battery? Let me know.

Also, please perform a battery test as well as an adapter test to determine any hardware defects. Here are the steps:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc to get the Startup menu. Now press F2 key.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
  4. Select the "Component test" and then select "battery test" from the list.
  5. Once done, perform an adapter test as well.
  6. Let me know if the test passes or not.

Go to http://hp.care/2cMZFxJ and perform the tests under “Testing and calibrating the battery using HP PC Diagnostics UEFI (preferred method)”. Make sure to do the test for both battery and the adapter.

If the test passes, perform a battery calibration as well as mentioned under “Manually Calibrating the battery” and check.

Thanks, I’ll watch for your reply!

Good luck 🙂

Hello, @Dvortex,

I still facing the issue with the new adapter & battery.

I've already done 4 battery tests by downloading the battery up to 0% and recharging it up to 100% as told by your colleagues.

I also done the test from HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI and the check is PASSED.

Thanks,
Paky

Hello, @Paky

Thanks for the update!

Try to update the chipset drivers for your notebook: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78355.exe

Download and install the chipset driver update and then restart the PC.

Also, try the steps below:

1) Right-click on the charge indicator icon at the bottom right corner of your screen and select Power Options.

2) Click on the option which says "Create a power plan".

3) Select Balanced and also give a new name.

4) Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the power plan.

5) Save the settings, restart the PC.

6) Now, charge the PC to 100% and check.

Let me know how that goes!

Cheers 🙂

EDIT: I installed the chipset update. I also create a new profile selecting "Raccomanded by HP" profile because in the description there are the word "balanced" (is it correct?) but when I switch off the computer, after some minutes, the battery indicator light become white...

What can I do?

Have a nice day
Pasquale

Hello, @Paky

Thanks for the update!

I have one last step for you to try:

  • Click the bottom-left Start button on the desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
  • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
  • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Battery”  – Right-click and choose “uninstall” on all the entries.
  • Once all the entries are removed from battery, restart your PC.

The PC will reinstall the drivers automatically once your restart the PC. Then try charging the laptop.

If the issue persists, then the issue could be with the battery connectors. You need to contact the HP phone support so that we can service the machine.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Good luck 🙂
