Well, ive had this issue since i bought this laptop second hand, and its the fact that the battery indicator wont change its percentage unless i connect and disconnect the charger from the laptop, then it changes. The battery seems to be ok giving a total run time of around 2 hours, but since windows thinks the battery is always at the same level of charge it doesnt know when to shut down and the laptop does it without warning. What could be the cause? Some extra info would be the fact that i also had this problem in windows 7 and 1% of the time the battery indicator actually works and i can safely use the laptop on battery without it shuting down randomly. I would apreciate any help. Thanks.

Thank you for the information.
As you have mentioned that you also have Ubuntu on the computer, I do not recommend you performing a bios update on the computer.
I recommend you perform a reset on the computer with only the Windows operating system and check whether the battery indicator works fine.
Follow the steps in the below article to perform a reset and check if it helps.
If the issue persists, then do a bios update (With only Windows operating system installed on the computer) and check if it helps.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that battery indicator is not changing when the adapter is connected.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the computer was working fine?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
- Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
Meanwhile, follow below steps to fix this issue.
Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.
Here is how you do it.
Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”
Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”
Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.
Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”
Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
If the issue persists, I recommend you update the bios the from the below link and test.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi! thanks for the recommendations. Ill kindly give you the information you need: It may sound a liitle bit dumb but i dont know when was the last time the battery indicator was working on this computer. As i said i bought it second hand from a family member and he said he didnt use the laptop very much. And even he may not remeber when was the last time the indicator was working. Then no, i havent made any changes to the computer since i bought it, only a installation of windows 7 and ubuntu (had both at the same time) and some time later 8.1 (had the same problem on all of them). And i`ve already tried the ACPI thing but it hasnt much difference. I think its ovious the problem is the battery since it actually doesnt show its charging when i plug the charger with the computer running, only when i turn it on with the charger on. But the funny thing is that the percentage still goes up. As a last bet i could try the BIOS update, but i have a question: is it risky? I dont wanna risk my computer´s functionality just for a battery problem i dont care a lot about since i can use the computer on AC and thats what ive been doing for 2 years now. Thanks for the information anyway.

Hey! HP doesnt have drivers for a pavilon dv6-1253cl running windows 8.1, go figure. But dont worry, its not your fault. Ill accept your solution anyway because a BIOS update would have probably fixed the issue. Its a shame, but dont feel bad, ill keep using the laptop in this state like ive been doing since i bought it.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Robert.

The drivers are available for Windows Vista and Windows 7 for your computer. Please refer to the below link.
Meanwhile, I recommend you install HP support assistant and it will automatically find the drivers for your computer and install it. You can download HP support assistant from the below link.
Hope that helps.
