Dear all,

Issue

- Battery stopped charging

- Laptop did not get power without AC adaptor

Actions done

- Diagnostics (F2) run

  - no issues with AC Adaptor

 - Faulty battery

Battery replaced.

=> no change : battery does not charge, is at 52%, battery does not power the motherboard,  diagnostics recognizes the battery and gives all kinds of details about the hardware. Did full powercycle reset. Nothing changes.

It must be the hardware on the motherboard.

Hardware is still in warranty, how do I get this fixed ?

Kind Regards,

Chris

Hi @chrisduboisaals

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for providing the details. I understand the concern. Since the battery has already been replaced and the HP Hardware Diagnostics continues to identify the battery correctly, while the notebook only operates with the AC adapter connected, the issue may be related to the battery charging circuitry, system board power path, or BIOS communication with the battery.

Before concluding that the motherboard hardware is at fault, we recommend the following checks:

Update the BIOS to the latest version available for your notebook model from HP Support.

While the AC adapter is connected, press F2 at startup and run:

  • Battery Test
  • Power Adapter Test
  • System Board Test (if available)

In Windows:

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Batteries
  • Right-click and uninstall:
    • Microsoft AC Adapter
    • Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
  • Restart the notebook and allow Windows to reinstall the drivers automatically.

Perform a BIOS reset:

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears.

Verify whether the battery percentage increases while the AC adapter is connected and whether the notebook can power on using battery alone after the restart.

If the battery still does not charge and the notebook cannot operate from battery power after completing these checks, warranty service would be the appropriate next step.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your help.

Unfortunately nothing changed after following your guidelines.

I will contact a HP contact center.

Hopefully there are no issues with the warranty.

Kind Regards,

Chris
