Hi @Chanda133

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP laptop's battery is stuck at 49% and neither charging nor discharging, despite showing the charging symbol, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Shut down your laptop.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery if it's removable.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then power on the laptop.

Check the Power Adapter and Connections:

  • Ensure that the power adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Check for any visible damage to the power cord or adapter.
  • Try using a different power outlet or adapter if available.

Update Battery Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it from the menu.
  • Expand the Batteries section.
  • Right-click Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, then select Update driver.
  • Follow the prompts to search for and install any available driver updates.

Perform Battery Calibration:

  • Fully charge the battery to 100%.
  • Disconnect the charger and let the battery discharge completely until the laptop shuts down.
  • Recharge the battery back to 100% without interruption.

Run HP Support Assistant:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant software to check for system updates and run a battery diagnostics test. It can provide useful insights into battery health and suggest specific actions.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Ensure your laptop's BIOS is up-to-date. You can check for BIOS updates through the HP website or HP Support Assistant.
  • Some BIOS settings can affect charging, so it's helpful to verify and reset to default settings if needed.

If the issue persists after attempting these solutions, there might be a hardware fault with the battery or the charging circuit, and it would be advisable to seek professional repair services.
