Hi @Isha72,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

To help troubleshoot the issue with your 3-year-old laptop that had its battery replaced 6 months ago, I'll ask a few questions and provide the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

  • How long does the battery currently last on a full charge?
  • Have you noticed any unusual battery behavior, such as rapid draining, not charging fully, or not holding a charge?

  • Are there any problems with the charging process, such as the battery not charging past a certain percentage or the laptop only running when plugged in?

  • Have you adjusted any power or battery settings in Windows, such as changing power plans or enabling battery-saver mode?

  • Does the battery indicator in Windows show any errors, such as “Plugged in, not charging” or any other warning messages?

  • Have you performed a battery health check through HP Support Assistant or Windows to check the battery's condition?

:

  • Have you noticed any physical issues with the battery, such as swelling, overheating, or unusual noise?

  • Have there been any recent software updates, BIOS updates, or hardware changes that coincide with the battery issues?

  • Are you using the original HP charger, and is it in good working condition? Have you tried using a different charger to see if the issue persists?

Meanwhile, you answer those for me, I am also sharing a few troubleshooting steps to see if that helps.

Check Battery Health:

  • Using HP Support Assistant:
    1. Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu.
    2. Go to My Devices > Battery > Battery Check.
    3. Run the battery test to check the battery health and see if it indicates any issues.
  • Using Windows Battery Report:
    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
    3. Locate the generated report in the path provided, usually C:\Users\[YourUsername]\battery-report.html, and review the battery health details.

Kindly check your next post for the remaining steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Isha72,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Calibrate the Battery:

  • Battery Calibration:
    1. Fully charge the laptop to 100% and then disconnect the charger.
    2. Use the laptop on battery power until it shuts down due to low battery.
    3. Charge it back to 100% without interruption and check if the battery performance improves.

Check Power Settings:

  • Adjust Power Plans:
    1. Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
    2. Check the Power Mode and ensure it’s set to Balanced or Best Performance.
  • Disable Battery Saver:
    1. Ensure that the Battery Saver mode is turned off if not needed.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • BIOS Update:
    1. Visit the HP support website and check for the latest BIOS update for your laptop model.
    2. Follow the instructions to update the BIOS if a newer version is available.
  • Driver Updates:
    1. Ensure that all drivers, especially the battery and power management drivers, are up to date using HP Support Assistant or Windows Update.

Reset Battery Settings in Device Manager:

  • Reset Battery Settings:
    1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Batteries and right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
    3. Select Uninstall device, then restart the laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

Test with a Different Charger:

  • Check the Charger:
    • If possible, test with another compatible HP charger to rule out issues with the charger.

Perform a Battery Reset:

  • Battery Reset:
    1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
    2. Remove the battery if it’s removable. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
    3. Reinsert the battery, connect the charger, and turn on the laptop.

Monitor for Overheating:

  • Check for Overheating:
    1. Ensure that the laptop vents are not blocked, and the cooling system is working properly.
    2. Use a cooling pad or ensure adequate ventilation during use.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the battery issues with your laptop.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider contacting HP support for further assistance or taking the unit to the nearest service center.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
