Microsoft Windows 11

I recently replaced my battery , the previous one gets damaged due to surge and it was not holding the charge and won't start if not connected to ac adapter, now the new one is charging and also laptop is working without the adapter but the light isn't turning white from orange even after the battery is fully charged(100%).

Hi @Aarush2003,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP Notebook 15q is charging and working with the new battery, but the battery indicator light isn't reflecting the full charge correctly. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Check Battery Driver:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand the Batteries section.
  • Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Remove the AC adapter and the battery (if it's removable).
  • Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds to discharge the capacitors.
  • Reinsert the battery, plug in the charger, and start the laptop. The driver should reinstall automatically.
  • Check if the charging light works correctly now.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and any other peripherals.
  • If the battery is removable, take it out.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter.
  • Power on the laptop and check the battery light status.

Update BIOS:

  • Sometimes battery or charging light issues can be resolved by updating the BIOS.
  • Visit the HP support website and check for any BIOS updates for your specific laptop model.
  • If a BIOS update is available, follow the instructions on the site to update it.

Battery Calibration:

  • Charge the battery to 100% and leave it connected for an additional hour.
  • Unplug the charger and let the laptop drain the battery completely until it shuts down.
  • Plug the charger back in and charge it back to 100% without interruption. This can help recalibrate the battery sensor and may fix the light issue.

Check with HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc or F2 (depending on your model) during startup to access the HP Diagnostics menu.
  • Run the Battery Test from the diagnostics tool to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
