Hey forum,
So I noticed my spectre was getting seemingly lower battery life in the past few days and discharging greatly even in sleep mode. I checked Hardware monitor and it's telling me now that my design capacity is about 42500mWh when it used to be around 70,000-72,000. I ran powercfg and got a battery report that is telling me that the max capacity has been rapidly decreasing since about mid to the end of September to now. Just since yesterday actually it's telling me that the capacity decreased by about 12,000mWh. There have been a few other weeks where it's decreased by ~5000mWh. This laptop is probably around 2 years old at this point, and I wanted to know if it could be some sort of software issue with windows reading the capacity wrong since it has decreased so rapidly, or if it's just time to find a replacement battery. Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that the battery is draining quickly in the past few days.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you update the BIOS on the computer from the below link and check if it helps.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
If you continue facing the issue, then reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under the device manager.
Here is how you do it.
Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”
Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”
Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.
Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”
Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
