Hi @abbbyPh,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about the battery issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

The Battery Error 601 message usually indicates that the battery capacity has significantly dropped and may need replacement. However, sometimes it can be triggered by calibration or firmware issues. Before you purchase a new battery, let’s confirm the situation.

Please try the following steps to ensure the error isn’t caused by a temporary issue:

  1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Run the Battery Test to check the health status.
  2. Update BIOS & Drivers
    • Go to https://support.hp.com/  and update your BIOS and chipset drivers.
    • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause false battery alerts.
  3. Battery Calibration
    • Fully charge the battery to 100%.
    • Let it discharge completely until the laptop shuts down.
    • Recharge to 100% again. This can help recalibrate the battery sensor.
  4. Check AC Adapter
  • Ensure you are using the original HP adapter.
  • A faulty adapter can sometimes mimic battery issues.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
