Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi folks! My laptop is Hp Probook 450 G2 and Windows 10 OS. It all run perfectly, until i left my laptop in sleepmode for few days and apparently the battery drained completly out. I didn'n knew this would be an issue, but now, it won't charge my baterry any more, the baterry is allways on 1% and it shows only that the charger is plugged in, nor charging nor not charging is showing like before. When i plug out the charger the laptop goes imidietly off, so i presumed the battery is drained out. I also doesn't charge when the laptop is off, the orange indicator is just blinking orange. I tried some solutions with device menaher, uninstalling the drivers, hard reset with holding power button and removng the baterry, but nothing helped. The baterry was actually pretty good and in great shape, i took care of it. Is it possible that my baterry is just dead and i cando nothing more about it but to replace it? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

@Blejd,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

This sounds like a battery-related issue, but it's always a good idea to troubleshoot thoroughly before concluding that the battery needs replacement.  According to HP, here's a step-by-step guide for addressing this problem (some of which you already did or are not feasible):

Steps to Troubleshoot and Resolve the Issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset (Again, Just in Case):

  • Shut down the laptop and unplug the charger.
  • Remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15–30 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then power on the laptop.

2. Test the Charger:

  • Ensure the charger is working properly. If possible, test with a compatible charger or use a multimeter to confirm the output voltage matches the rated specifications.
  • Check the charging port for any physical damage or dust buildup.

3. BIOS Battery Test:

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc or F2 (depending on your model) repeatedly to access the Startup Menu.
  • Select Diagnostics > Battery Test.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to determine if the battery is healthy or has failed.

4. Update the BIOS:

  • An outdated BIOS could cause charging or battery recognition issues.
  • Visit the HP Support page for the HP ProBook 450 G2.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS version if available/applicable.

5. Check the Battery Status in Windows:

  • Open the Device Manager.
  • Expand Batteries and uninstall the following drivers:
    • Microsoft AC Adapter
    • Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
  • Restart the laptop, allowing Windows to reinstall the drivers.

6. Calibrate the Battery:

  • If the laptop can stay powered on with the charger connected, run a battery calibration.
  • Drain the battery completely until the laptop shuts down. (skip this)
  • Charge it fully (to 100%) without interruption, then check if the issue persists. (skip this)

7. External Battery Test:

  • If you have access to another compatible battery, try swapping it into the laptop. (likely skip this)
  • Alternatively, insert your battery into another compatible HP ProBook to test it. (likely skip this too)

8. Examine the Battery Physically:

  • Look for swelling, damage, or leaks. If present, replace the battery immediately.

9. Consider Replacement:

  • If all troubleshooting fails, the battery has likely reached the end of its life, even if it seemed in good condition previously. Batteries can fail suddenly, especially after complete discharge.
  • Purchase a new battery.  The part number for a replacement battery is: 756744-001 (44Wh capacity) or 756746-001 (40Wh capacity). Purchase via a trusted eCommerce business, such as Amazon.

Additional Notes:

  • Battery Lifespan: Even well-maintained batteries degrade over time. Complete discharge (to 0%) can sometimes cause irreversible damage.
  • Charging Circuit Issues: If a new battery doesn't resolve the issue, the laptop's charging circuit or power adapter may be faulty and need professional repair. (Let's hope this isn't the case!)

Kind Regards,
