Hi @cnatale,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop’s battery is not charging even though it’s plugged in. Let’s go through a few steps to find out what’s causing this.

Check Power Source
Plug another device (like a phone charger or lamp) into the same outlet to ensure it’s working.
If you’re using a surge protector or extension cord, try connecting the charger directly to the wall outlet.

Inspect Charger and Cable
Make sure the power adapter and charging cable are firmly connected at both ends.
Look for frayed wires, bent pins, or signs of overheating on the charger or power port.

Check Charging Indicator
Observe if the charging light on the laptop or adapter turns on when plugged in.

If the light is off, it could be a charger, port, or power source issue.

If the light is on but the battery doesn’t charge, it’s likely a battery or software issue.

Restart the Laptop
Sometimes a simple reboot refreshes the power management system.
Shut down the laptop, unplug the charger, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Perform a Hard Reset (if supported)
Shut down the laptop and unplug the charger.
If the battery is removable, take it out.
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
Reconnect the charger and battery (if removed), then turn on the laptop.

Check Battery Health in System Settings
On Windows: Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Battery Health (or use HP Support Assistant if available).
On macOS: Go to System Settings > Battery > Battery Health.
If the health is significantly degraded, the battery may need replacement.

Update or Reinstall Battery Drivers (Windows)
Go to Device Manager > Batteries > Microsoft AC Adapter & Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
Right-click and choose Uninstall device, then restart the laptop.
Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.

I hope this helps.
