Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

Please I upgraded my laptop (HP Envy x360 - 15m-bp112dx) from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and the battery is not recognized. System goes off immediately i unplug the power cable. I assume the driver is not installed.  Kindly help with the possible solution and/or the specific driver I may need to install.

Many thanks

Hi @Yel_-Dunnie,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy x360 (15m-bp112dx) is not recognizing the battery after upgrading to Windows 11, it could be due to several reasons, such as driver issues, BIOS settings, or power management settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to address the problem:

1. Check Battery Connection

  1. Ensure Proper Connection:
    • Make sure the battery is properly connected to the laptop. If the battery is removable, you might want to reseat it by carefully removing it and then placing it back in.

2. Update or Reinstall Battery Drivers

Open Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.

Expand Batteries Section:

  • Look for the Batteries section and expand it. You should see entries such as Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.

Update Driver:

  • Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will search for the latest driver and install it if available.

Reinstall Driver:

  • If updating doesn’t work, right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
  • After uninstalling, restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the battery drivers.

3. Update BIOS and Firmware

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop’s model number to find the latest BIOS update.

Download and Install BIOS Update:

  • Follow the instructions on the HP support page to download and install the latest BIOS update. Updating the BIOS can fix compatibility issues with Windows 11.

4. Perform a Battery Reset

Shut Down the Laptop:

  • Power off your laptop and disconnect the power adapter.

Remove the Battery:

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.

Press and Hold Power Button:

  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.

Reinsert Battery and Power On:

  • Reinsert the battery, reconnect the power adapter, and turn on your laptop.

5. Check Power Management Settings

Open Power Options:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.

Change Plan Settings:

  • Click on Change plan settings next to your current power plan.

Change Advanced Power Settings:

  • Click on Change advanced power settings.

Check Battery Settings:

  • Ensure that the settings under Battery are properly configured. Restore defaults if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
