I get a 601 warning that the levels are two low and a counterfeit warning on boot. I have followed all the recommended steps with 15 sec delete of memory, reinstall BIOS, reinstall ACPI driver, and they dont work. I have tried to do the step with battery disconnected, but got a failure when trying to remove the ACPI driver.
The low level on the battery must be due to the old battery was faulty and set lower, but I had expected the system to correct that, when the new battery was recognized.
So I have hid a dead-end here. Not much fun with a laptop with out a battery. So Im considering just reinstalling the faulty one and live with it, and look for other options than HP the next time I look for a computer.
I dont expect any solutions - its just sad times.

Hi @NotHere-Where,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP OMEN Laptop's battery not being recognized. Battery-related problems can occur due to various reasons, such as driver issues, hardware problems, or software glitches. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue:
Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor software glitches that might be causing the battery recognition problem. Shut down your laptop completely, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
Check the battery contacts: Ensure that the battery is properly inserted into the laptop and that the battery contacts are clean and free of debris or corrosion. Gently clean the contacts if necessary, but be careful not to damage them.
Update BIOS and Drivers: Outdated BIOS or battery-related drivers could lead to recognition issues. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest BIOS and battery-related drivers. Install them following the provided instructions.
Battery Calibration: Sometimes, calibrating the battery can resolve recognition problems. To do this, follow these steps:
- Fully charge your laptop's battery.
- Disconnect the power adapter and let the laptop run on battery power until it shuts down due to low battery.
- Reconnect the power adapter and charge the laptop again to 100%.
Windows Battery Report: If you're using Windows, generate a battery report to gather information about your battery's health and status. This report might provide insights into any underlying issues. To do this:
- Open a Command Prompt as an administrator (search for "cmd," right-click, and select "Run as administrator").
- In the Command Prompt, type: powercfg /batteryreport
- Locate the generated report in the specified file path and open it to review the information.
Battery Driver Reinstallation: Sometimes, reinstalling the battery drivers can help. Here's how:
- Open the "Device Manager" (right-click on the "Start" button, and choose "Device Manager").
- Locate the "Batteries" section and expand it.
- Right-click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and select "Uninstall device."
- After uninstallation, restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the battery drivers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
