Hi @Tendoe,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop battery is only lasting 3-4 hours on a brand new laptop, it could be due to several factors. Here are some common reasons why this may be happening and steps you can take to improve the battery life.
- Power settings: Check your power settings and ensure that they are optimized for better battery performance. You can access the power settings by clicking on the battery icon in the system tray or through the Control Panel.
- Background processes: Some background processes or apps running in the background may be consuming a significant amount of power. Use the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to identify and close any unnecessary processes that may be running.
- Screen brightness: Lowering the screen brightness can significantly impact battery life. Reduce the brightness level to a comfortable level while still maintaining good visibility.
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: If you're not using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, turning them off can help conserve power. You can disable them through the system settings or the function keys on your laptop (usually indicated by icons).
- Battery calibration: Calibrating your battery can help ensure accurate battery level readings. To do this, fully charge your laptop battery, then allow it to discharge completely until it shuts down. Finally, recharge it fully again.
- Software updates: Keep your operating system and drivers up to date. HP often release updates that include improvements to battery performance.
- Battery health: Check the battery health status of your laptop. Some HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics tools that can assess the battery health.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
