HP Pavilion x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-er0000 (31F79AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I was running a Hardware Diagnostics test and it told me that my battery Logic State was okay but the Charge Status was Unavailable. I then ran a test on my AC Adapter and it tells me that the test was cancelled. Does this mean I need to replace the adapter or the battery? I have to keep the device plugged in because it stays at 5% regardless of what I do.

I've had this laptop for about 1.5 - 2 years and though it's not a gaming laptop, I easily ran games like Phasmophobia, Valheim, and Left 4 Dead 2 with no issue at all. I recently have upgraded the RAM and SSD and even so it has been lagging off and on to the point that it is noticeable in even in the most basic 8 bit games.

I was wondering if this is related to the issue with the battery/adapter or simply from the device getting older?

@Meraki850,

This is a really good question.  Mind you, I do not represent HP and I am not authorized to speak for HP, but I can tell you what I would do if I were in your shoes, so to speak.

So, let's assume for a moment that your battery is fine.

Your HP Pavilion X360 15.6 Inch 2-In-1 Laptop PC 15-Er0000 (31F79AV) was either sold with a 65-watt charger with p/n: 710412-001 "65 W, nPFC, SMART, 3 pin, 4.5 mm", or a 45-watt charger with p/n: 741727-001 "45 W, nPFC, SMART, RC, 4.5 mm, nonslim".  IMO, if you got the 45-watt charger -regardless of whether it is defective or not, I would strongly recommend upgrading to a 65-watt charger.

And it so happens that a reliable 65-watt replacement charger for your laptop can be purchased for less than $14, such as this purchase example: https://www.amazon.com/Chromebook-PA-1650-32HE-709985-001-710412-001-709985-002/dp/B07KS29ZJ2/ref=sr....

That is what I would do.  Buy this 65-watt charger, and with any luck, it will solve your problem.  If it doesn't, and your original charger is a 65-watt unit, return to Sender and get your money back.

The next logical step would be to purchase a replacement battery with p/n: M24648-005 ("PC03XL"), such as this purchase example: Amazon.com: IZKROR PC03XL 43.3Wh Battery Replacement for HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible 14-DY Pavil....

Check the illustration to double-check that the aforementioned battery is indeed what you need.  It should, but better be safe than sorry.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thank you so much for your reply!

I just got a 65w adapter and plugged it in and both diagnostic tests are passing again. The laptop is also charging past 5% so here is to hoping the lag issue resolves once it is fully charged. Thank you again for your help!
