Hi @GSx75

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It’s understandably frustrating when your laptop’s charging behavior becomes unpredictable. Let’s walk through a few precise steps to help stabilize the charging function on your HP ENVY x360 13-bf0000.

This kind of intermittent charging can sometimes be caused by firmware, power management settings, or even connector sensitivity. Here’s how to gently but effectively troubleshoot it:

Step-by-Step Charging Troubleshooting

1. Perform a Hardware Reset

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Unplug the charger and remove any connected peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger and power it on.

This clears residual electrical states that may interfere with charging logic.

2. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers Outdated firmware can cause inconsistent battery behavior. Visit the official HP support page for your model:

Download and install the latest:

  • BIOS update
  • Intel chipset driver
  • Battery management or power driver, if listed

3. Check Battery Health Using HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Press Esc repeatedly at startup, then press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  • Run the battery check and note the results.

If the battery status shows “Calibrate” or “Replace,” that may explain the behavior.

4. Adjust Battery Conservation Settings

  • Open HP App from the Start menu.
  • Navigate to Power or Battery Health Manager.
  • If “Adaptive Battery Optimizer” or “Battery Care Mode” is enabled, try switching to “Maximize My Battery Health” or “Let HP Manage My Battery Charging.”

These modes can pause charging at 80–85% to extend battery lifespan.

5. Inspect the Charging Port and Adapter

  • Gently clean the USB-C or barrel charging port with a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Try a different wall outlet.
  • If available, test with another compatible HP charger to rule out adapter issues.

6. Run HP Diagnose & Fix Tool This tool checks for power and battery-related issues:

Download and run it directly from Windows.

If the issue continues after these steps, you’re welcome to revisit this thread with any new observations. You’ve taken the right approach by monitoring the battery status closely, and with a few adjustments, we can aim for consistent charging behavior.
