Hello everyone, I recently bought hp pavilion notebook 13th generation laptop from Thailand. It has been just five months since I bought it and the battery suddenly stopped charging. The warranty is still active. How can I solve the issue?

Hi @Yafet12,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion Plus Laptop 14's battery has stopped charging, Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
Check the Power Adapter and Cable: Ensure that the power adapter and cable are functioning correctly. Look for any visible damage and try using a different outlet.
Inspect the Charging Port: Make sure the charging port on your laptop is clean and free of debris. Sometimes dust or lint can obstruct the connection.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Shut down your laptop.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery and reconnect the power adapter.
- Turn on your laptop and see if it charges.
Update BIOS and Drivers: Ensure your laptop’s BIOS and battery drivers are up to date. You can check the HP support website for the latest versions.
Battery Health Check: Use HP’s built-in diagnostics tool to check the battery health:
- Press F2 during startup to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Select the "Battery" option to run a test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,
Thank you for helping me. The problem is that, the laptop still can be turned on and works when the charger is plugged. But the battery status never increased from zero and the laptop shut down instantly when the charger is plugged out. I tried the battery test twice and it says the battery has to be replaced for the first test and normal for the second test. I tried after updating the window but nothing changed.
If you have any solution, please I REALLY appreciate.

Hi @Yafet12,
Thank you for your response,
Here are some advanced steps you can try to diagnose and potentially resolve the battery issue with your HP Pavilion Plus Laptop 14.
Recalibrate the Battery:
- Fully charge the laptop to 100%.
- Let it drain completely until the laptop shuts down on its own.
- Leave it off for at least 5-6 hours.
- Charge it back to 100% without interruption. This may help recalibrate the battery sensor.
Check for Power Management Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected plan, then Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Battery and ensure that settings like "Critical battery action" are set appropriately.
Disable Fast Startup:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) and save changes. Restart your laptop.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Sometimes, system updates can resolve power-related issues. Make sure your Windows is fully updated by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and checking for updates.
Inspect Battery Settings in Device Manager:
- Right-click on Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Batteries and right-click on each entry (usually "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and "Microsoft AC Adapter").
- Choose Uninstall device. After that, restart your laptop; Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.
Run HP Support Assistant:
- Download and run the HP Support Assistant if you haven’t already. It can help identify any issues with the battery and provide driver updates or hardware diagnostics.
Test with Another Charger:
- If possible, test with a different compatible charger. Sometimes, the charger may provide power but not charge the battery.
Perform a Battery Reset (if applicable):
- If your laptop has a battery reset pinhole (some models do), follow these steps:
- Shut down the laptop and unplug the power adapter.
- Locate the battery reset pinhole (refer to your laptop's user manual).
- Insert a paperclip into the hole and hold it for about 5 seconds.
- Release and power on the laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,
I really appreciate your help. The problem is that my laptop is acting as if it has not battery as all. No matter how long I charged the battery, it is always at zero percent. When I unplug the charger, it shuts down instantly as if it is a TV. I tried the all the things you just recommended me except using another compatible charger. If that is the case, I will try it. But I want you to understand the issue. Thank you

Hi @Yafet12,
Thank you for your response,
here are some additional advanced methods to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem with your HP Pavilion Plus Laptop 14.
Check the Battery Health
- Use the built-in HP Battery Check tool or a third-party battery health utility (like HWMonitor or BatteryInfoView) to check the battery's health status. If the health indicates that the battery is faulty or has significantly degraded, you may need to replace it.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn on the laptop.
Check the Battery Connection
- If the battery is removable, ensure that the battery contacts are clean and properly seated. If it’s a built-in battery, check the battery connectors inside the laptop (if you're comfortable opening it) for any signs of damage or dirt.
BIOS Update
- Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the HP support website. Sometimes, BIOS updates can fix battery detection issues.
- To update the BIOS, restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 during boot). Check the version and update if needed, following HP's instructions carefully.
Battery Calibration via Command Prompt
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands to generate a battery report:
powercfg /batteryreport
- The report will be generated in your user folder. Open the report (HTML file) and check the battery status and cycles.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly as it boots to access HP’s diagnostics. Run the battery tests available to see if any issues are detected.
Inspect Windows Power Settings
- Sometimes Windows power settings can prevent the battery from charging:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
- Select Change plan settings next to your plan, then Change advanced power settings.
- Make sure settings under Battery are properly configured (like Critical battery action and Low battery level).

Inspect the AC Adapter
- If you haven't already done so, check the AC adapter for any physical damage. You can also use a multimeter to test the output voltage of the charger to ensure it's providing the correct voltage.
Check for Background Processes
- High background activity can lead to excessive battery drain. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for any processes that may be consuming a lot of power. You can also check the battery usage by app to identify any unusual battery drain.
Reset Windows Power Plans
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator and reset all power plans to their default settings:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
If these steps do not resolve the issue, and especially if testing with another compatible charger shows that the battery is not responding, it might be time to consider a battery replacement.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
