What causes the battery to swell up on my Spectre and how to eliminate the issue. This is my second battery to do this. This time it broke the clips that hold the back on. Is there a recall on this or anything?

Hi:

There is no recall that I know of.

Do you always or almost always leave the notebook connected to the charger?

If so, that could be a major reason why the battery can swell.

I leave my notebook disconnected from the charger most of the time, and when the low battery notification comes on, I reconnect the charger to charge the battery again.

I have never had a swollen battery in either of my two HP notebooks that have internal batteries, and they are more than 2 years old.

Here are related links regarding this issue and steps you can take to mitigate the problem in the future if what I have written is not applicable to your situation.

I have had many laptops and always leave plugged in so it will be charged when I need it to be mobile it will be ready. My wife does the same. Why is this the only one that does this?  Design flaw?  Charger to many ma? It should not need to run on battery all the time. It’s very inconvenient when halfway thru my shift at work to be doing something and Wham battery dead and you lose everything you’ve been working on all day because it “shouldn’t be plugged in all the time.”
