Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop battery will not charge more than 85% and that will also be indicated in windows

I am not sure where is the problem from or if it is software-based or not.
the laptop is only about 5 months old, and the issue appeared before two weeks!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion 14-al003ne laptop. I read that the battery charges not more than 85%.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Since how long is this happening with the battery?
  • If the charger is disconnected, does the laptop stay powered on with the battery power?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Now, please uninstall the battery drivers by following he blow steps:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

If the battery continues to charge for not more then 85% then please update the BIOS via this link.

You may perform the following steps from this HP document to test the battery and also calibrate it.

  • Test the AC adapter using the UEFI Hardware Diagnostic tests.
  • Troubleshooting the notebook battery.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the results. Cheers! 🙂

This problem appeared only in the last two week and a half.
Also, the battery is performing fine and can operate the laptop normally.

The Problem is just when charging I cannot get a 100 percent, and lately the charging speed has been greatly reduced ( I left it over night to charge from just 65% to 73% ) after I tried the solution you provided.
What I performed was the restarting method you provided, deleting the ACPI-option, updating the bios, and then also a complete recalibration for the battery using the UEFI Hardware Diagnostic tests (which took more than 4 hours).

I am really really thankful for the solution you tried to provided, but they did not give any positive result!

The power source test using the UEFI Hardware Diagnostic tests also gave a failure ID: GSJDV0-83A8NM-MFPX7G-C0AU03 when I ran it

You're most welcome. 🙂

Thanks for getting back with the results. The failure ID indicates a hardware failure. And that was the root cause of the issue. I suggest you to reach out to our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for your laptop.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. It was a pleasure assisting you.
