My battery light is flashing orange and will not charge I have tried every thing i have seen to do on the internet the laptop is just over 15 months old and is not used on a daily basis.  I had a couple of times here and there that the battery did not charge and I just thought it was because I did not have it plugged in fully but now the laptop will not charge at all I can use it if its plugged in.    I have tried all of the trouble shooting from hp that i could do.  Is there anything else I can try.

Hi @Anet303

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for reaching out. We understand how concerning it can be when your HP 17 Laptop PC shows a flashing orange battery light and operates only while connected to AC power.

Since you have already completed the common troubleshooting steps, this behavior typically points to either a battery communication issue, adapter power issue, or a battery that is no longer accepting a charge.

Please try the following recommended steps:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect only the HP charger and check if the battery LED behavior changes.

Next, run the HP Battery Test:

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Power it on and repeatedly tap the Esc key.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  4. Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  5. Run the Battery Test and note the result.

Also confirm:

  • Are you using the original HP power adapter that came with the laptop?
  • Does Windows show "Plugged in, not charging" or "No battery detected" when you hover over the battery icon?
  • What is the exact blink pattern of the orange light (steady blinking, fast blinking, or a specific sequence)?

If the battery test returns a Failure ID or reports the battery needs replacement, please share that result. Based on the symptoms described, the battery health or charging circuitry is the most likely area requiring attention, and the diagnostic result will help identify the next appropriate step.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
